CICELY TYSON

The world-renowned Cicely Tyson rose to stardom for her performance in the films, Sounder and The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, for which she earned several Academy and Golden Globe Award nominations. She was discovered by a magazine photographer and later, became a model. Tyson’s other remarkable film is The Help as Constantine Jefferson, and she is also acclaimed for her performance in the TV drama, How to Get Away With Murder.

Due to her contribution to the industry, she was awarded honorary degrees from Columbia University, Howard University, and Morehouse College. Tyson received an honorary Oscar in 2018, making her the first African-American woman recipient. What you may not know is that her marriage with Miles Davis was at Bill Cosby’s house, and was hosted by Andrew Young. Bill Cosby was the one who walked the bride to the stage.
