Maria Sharapova is a retired professional tennis player from Russia. Maria Sharapova entered the tennis world at the age of 17 and quickly jumped to number one in the women’s tennis world rankings. For several years, she has been one of the top players on the Women’s Tournament until her career was derailed by injuries and other problems. In March 2016, Sharapova revealed that she failed a drug test at the 2016 Australian Open.

She tested positive for meldonium, a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. In June 2016, she was suspended for two years by the International Tennis Federation. Sharapova started her 2020 season in an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi, in which she defeated Ajla Tomglianović. That success turned out to be her final match because Sharapova announced her retirement on February 26, 2020, which stunned the public.
